My Story

A costume design class at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, then an invitation to build accessories at Neptune Theatre (Halifax, Nova Scotia) led me to a place as an apprentice in the Stratford Festival's Boots, Shoes and Leatherwork Department (Stratford, Ontario). I received the Jean A Chalmers Apprentice Award in 1985

Finishing up as Head of Department after 10 seasons, I received a Dora Mavor Moore Award in 1991 (for "outstanding contribution to Canadian Theatre") then headed to Prince Edward Island to live in the woods and continue to hone my craft

In 1998 I moved back home to Halifax (Nova Scotia), and began to work under the name Hubley Leatherworks. I found a thriving film and theatre community there, and I also created my own line of customized shoes and accessories for sale to the public

In 2013 I opened an Etsy store to sell my popular slippers, which has been expanded to include one of a kind shoes and boots

Now happily ensconced in the Ottawa area, I am pleased to showcase my work to inspire you to complete your wardrobe with affordable handmade footwear

I am grateful to the many master shoemakers, designers and craftspeople from around the world, who generously shared their expertise with me

I am a member of IATSE
